About This Deck

A quiz tests whether you understood something. Flashcards exist for a different reason entirely: they build the kind of memory that sticks with you when a friend asks a question and you don't have your Bible or your phone handy.

This deck covers 85 cards pulled directly from "Gospel vs the Gospels" — the vocabulary, the names, the symbols, and the small facts that are easy to nod along with while reading but surprisingly easy to forget a week later. What does euangelion actually mean, and why did it matter to a first-century Roman? Which Gospel is paired with the eagle, and why? What's the actual difference between the Synoptic Gospels and the Synoptic Problem, two phrases that sound almost identical but mean very different things?

The format is simple on purpose. Each card gives you a term, a name, or a short prompt on the front, and the full answer on the back. Flip it, check yourself honestly, move to the next one. Shuffle the deck once you've been through it a few times, since going in the same order every time trains you to recognize the sequence rather than the actual content.

This isn't meant to replace reading the article, and it isn't meant to replace the quiz either. Read the article for the full argument and context. Use the quiz to test whether you actually followed that argument. Use these flashcards for the layer underneath both of those: the specific facts and terms you want to be able to recall instantly, without having to reconstruct the reasoning behind them every time.

Go through the deck a card at a time, in either direction, as many times as it takes. There's no score here and no pressure — just repetition, which is genuinely how this kind of knowledge becomes permanent.
